Dr. Paul Hardersen and University of North
Dakota Ph.D. student, Sherry Fieber-Beyer, traveled to the
summit of Mauna Kea in Hawaii for a scheduled observing
run at the NASA
Infrared Telescope Facility (IRTF).
The observing run occurred on the nights of May 19 and
May 20 to study main-belt asteroids. The research is to
attempt to identify meteorite analogs for some of the asteroids
near the 3:1 resonance that might provide insight to the
types of asteroids that are becoming members of the near-Earth
asteroid population. Be sure to check out the photo slideshow
